SOZZFEST – WAYNE SOUTHWORTH

The following photos were taken at an event called ‘Sozzfest’ at the 1in12 club in July 2005. The event was organised to commemorate the sad death of our friend Wayne Southworth who died at home on the 18th of March 2005. Wayne was only 28 years old and his death was a massive blow to all who knew him.

Despite assurances to the contrary, Waynes family gave him a full Christian funeral which we know he would not have been happy about. We felt that the ‘Sozzfest’ event would have been the kind of send off he would have wanted and gave all his friends the chance to remember him, pay tribute to his life and say our goodbyes in our own ways.

The idea behind the event was to have bands playing that Wayne was either a member of (Doom and Unicorn Love) or bands that he personally liked or was good friends with the members.

Apart from Doom and Unicorn Love, bands that also played were…Cress, Extinction Of Mankind, Boxed In, The Day Man Lost, Forced Entry, Gurkha, Red Right Hand, Gloomy Sunday and Lazarus Blackstar.

Aside from the music, the event was also organised to raise money for 2 charities that we felt Wayne would have approved of. Shortly before his death, Wayne had taken on a greyhound (Boyd) from the Tia Greyhound Rescue centre so the money raised on the day was split evenly between Tia and ‘Epilepsy Action’ as Wayne died from an epileptic seizure. Both charities received £600 each.

On the days, the event was massively attended which is testament to how well liked Wayne was and, if you were there in spirit mate, we hope we did you justice.
